Rule-1: কোনো ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর পাশে বোঝাতে By ব্যবহূত হয়। যেমন:
a) The telephone is by the window.
b) Come and sit by me.

Rule-2: Passive verb-এর শেষে সাধারণত by ব্যবহূত হয়। যেমন:
(a) The work has been done by her.
(b) The floor was cleaned by them.

Rule-3: কীভাবে কোনো কাজ সম্পাদিত হয়, তা বোঝাতে by ব্যবহূত হয়। যেমন:
(a) The house is heated by gas.
(b) I will contact you by letter.

Rule-4: কোনো কিছুর ফলে কোনো কিছু ঘটে বোঝাতে ‘the’ ব্যতীত বিশেষ বিশেষ noun-এর পূর্বে by ব্যবহূত হয়। যেমন:
(a) They met by chance.
(b) I did it by mistake.

Rule-5: নির্দিষ্ট সময়ের পূর্বে বোঝাতে by ব্যবহূত হয়। যেমন:
(a) Can you finish the work by five o’clock?
(b) He ought to have arrived by now.

Rule-6: কোনো ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু অতিক্রম করা অর্থে by ব্যবহূত হয়। যেমন:
(a) He walked by me speaking.
(b) They passed by the forest.

Rule-7: কোনো বস্তুর মাত্রা বা পরিমাপ বোঝাতে by ব্যবহূত হয়।যেমন:
(a) The bullet missed him by two inches.
(b) House prices went up by 10%.

Rule-8: কোনো ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর অংশবিশেষ বোঝাতে by ব্যবহূত হয়। যেমন:
(a) I took him by the hand.
(b) She seized her by the hair.

Rule-9: কোনো কিছু যে হারে সংঘটিত হয়, তা বোঝাতে by ব্যবহূত হয়। যেমন:
(a) They are improving day…day.
(b) We will do it bit…bit.
